WHEN TO GO

Here the Chianti atmosphere reigns throughout the year. Surrounded by vineyards and the typical rolling landscape that bloom in spring and summer, Greve you can visit on the occasion of some annual events: May 1 during the Flower Festival, May 3, the feast of the Holy Cross, patron of the country and the second weekend of September when the festival takes place in the Chianti Classico.

WHY GREVE IN CHIANTI

Greve in Chianti is the gateway to the Chianti and its wine. It soars over the hills and is surrounded by vineyards. Everywhere you can buy and taste the wine for which the region is famous and you can also visit the Wine Museum.

You can reach Greve by car or public transport. The village can be visited by foot.

WAT TO SEE

Greve in Chianti was born on the outskirts of major Tuscan communication networks: the road to Volterra and the Via Francigena. Well connected to Florence and the Arno valley, it was now a crossroads of trade and commercial harbor. To visit therefore the old market area, namely the current Market Square, where every Saturday there is a large food and livestock market.
Nearby is the Verrazzano Castle with a beautiful landscape of the Val di Greve, the birthplace of the great traveler Giovanni da Verrazzano, who discovered the Hudson Bay. Other castles to visit are to Montefioralle and Paranzo in Chianti and the Pieve di San Leonino with the X-century art.

WHAT TO DO

Enjoy the panoramic view of Greve in Chianti from the ascent of the Museum of Sacred Art San Francesco, where you can see all of the Greve river valley. The museum is interesting for religious art lovers, with insights on the archaeological remains found in the territory. Teatro Boito is a reference point for the local culture with a good theater and film programming. You can also visit the many local wine cellars, to taste the Chianti Classico.
